Thank you for your support of environmental justice for Georgia communities!
2022 Fall Fundraiser
ECO-Action is committed to providing organizing and technical assistance to Georgia low income communities and communities of color to fight the ravages of environmental injustice, environmental degradation, climate change and energy burden.
Thank you for your continued support of ECO-Action’s programming during 2022. We greatly appreciate your donation demonstrating your support and commitment to address environmental issues in Georgia. Our ongoing programming includes:
---The Atlanta Watershed Learning Network (AWLN), a proven, leadership development program that has educated and activated dozens of residents in the Flint River, Intrenchment and Proctor Creek watersheds communities, who are now serving as watershed stewards and teachers themselves. The six-module training session was once again conducted virtually in 2021 though the group did engage in some outdoor activities together this year.
---AWLN Youth Internships that engage low-income young adults aged 16-19 from Atlanta neighborhoods in environmental and climate justice work.This year ECO-action had its biggest class ever, providing paid internships to 44 young people at partner sites such as local parks, community centers, community gardens and social justice nonprofits;
--- Through a yearlong EPA funded project, Moving from Surviving to Thriving in the Face of Climate Change, ECO-Action has been training low-income, Atlanta community members so they will remain resilient in the face of climate change and mobilize for collective action to support policy change adaptation measures;
ECO-Action is continuing to advance the Green Infrastructure Initiative at the Atlanta University Center. Program activities are reducing the impacts of stormwater runoff on the Proctor Creek watershed by developing partnerships that encourage the proposed infrastructure construction and preserving and protecting trees on campus through a partnership with partner with the AUC colleges and Georgia Power;
---We are currently reinvigorating the Georgia Grassroots Environmental Network (GGEN) after its pandemic slowdown.Over the coming months we will be meeting one-on-one with GGEN members in rural communities to identify their issues and develop strategies that address their toxic pollution concerns.
We remain dedicated to helping Georgia communities organize for better environmental health protections, particularly for vulnerable communities. Will you help us continue our work? Your donation will support our work to expand training of environmental justice activists in urban and rural areas of the state and advocate to address the root causes of environmental injustice and climate change.
